It makes me happy to see that leaving social media, limiting your time here, etc. is so much more normalized now. When I left Twitter early in this decade, I often felt like the only dumbass who threw away all my connections and friends. Now I feel like you can find community in wanting to quit!

I think the more we move to putting physical, committed instances of the things and people we enjoy, the better we'll all be at remembering everyone that's not on social media. Photos, gifts, or media and art in the case of creators, putting it up instead of hitting the like button.

I did feel like I lost people on this level of, "I like to look over and see that you're doing ok even if we don't talk." I remember when the Sounds Of Tokyo-To Future teaser had five-figure reactions and I'll never get that again. It also felt like a big opportunity could come thru DM suddenly.

But all that was acquired in a walled garden by a younger, less aware me, and if I was wiser, I would have enjoyed it while it lasted while knowing I fundamentally did not own any of it. The only thing you have is people that you make a real exchange with, a purposeful connection. "Off platform"

I’ve cut down on socials so much and it has saved my mental so much. I barely use discord except to talk with friends and genuinely use TELEGRAM more than anything else. Just being outside more and that stuff has been so good for me.
