ESLint jumped in install size by 2MB recently from a basic dependency update. Here's a short thread of the observations 🧵

In 10.10.0 they bumped `file-entry-cache` from 8.x to 11.x which itself had: - install size: 116KB -> 1.6MB - dependencies: 4 -> 11

Where did that come from? It introduced a new dependency: cacheable (1.4MB). You can see when ESLint adopted it in the downloads graph...

All this is to say what looks like a basic dependency update might actually be a huge change in disguise. Review your lock files, your install size, bundle size, dependency count, etc. Check the new versions on @npmx.dev - it can even diff them. Look closer 🔎
