Have you tried out Meshia Mesh Simplifier/Meshia Cascading Mesh Simplifier in Unity? This is a perfect situation for using it You could probably use it not notice a difference on your avatar unless someone looked really close at the fingernails or something like that

Haven't tried meshia yet. I use prefabulous though to remove all hidden meshes

Oh, I've heard of this and I know AAO has some similar tools, too I think you're so close though and Meshia would push you over that line, though it's quick and imprecise so you might not love the results Great for having a bit of poly wiggle room for adding accessories to a poor or better avi
