Re: Jacob Geller - As someone who has experienced sexual assault myself, I personally still believe in rehabilitation for perpetrators who can admit they've fucked up. I think it's super unfair that the victim wasn't considered in ANY of this stuff being dug up, and maybe has been retraumatised...

...because of it. I do not know these people personally. I see so many people being mad that they haven't been told of every single bad thing people have done when they're a public figure. I don't understand what is gained from knowing that information.

I don't think it's bad to be upset. I do think that if you say you believe in restorative justice that you need to consider if you actually mean that, and what that looks like to you. Some of the responses are super parasocial and give me the ick.

my mother was assaulted repeatedly by men who will never be held accountable for their crimes. i deeply appreciate the nuance you applied to this thread. it's very rare to see on social media these days.

Thanks, I appreciate that. I truly understand the pain of being assaulted by someone you thought you could trust, it does a number on the psyche. But having that person admit fault and accept the punishment they're given, as well as admitting it to other intimate partners is huge. That doesn't

I feel like I need to reiterate that I do think what he did was terrible. Taking advantage of a vulnerable person is bad behaviour and also a crime. HOWEVER: the victim has not come forward, has not pursued legal action. We need to fix the system that treats women/femmes badly, discourages them

from getting due process. Men are emboldened by their friends, society. I've seen men get a slap on the wrist from the courts for beating the shit out of their partner. Women only get questions like "what were you wearing?" "Did you make him angry?"
