The First Amendment guarantees the essential right to assemble peacefully to advocate for any cause. Reports that the Trump administration may be using invasive surveillance technology to monitor protests against their anti-immigrant polices without a warrant are deeply alarming.

Around 12 years ago, we briefed DARPA on a project called Yellow Box that collected cell phone metadata across the DC area. There is enough information in the metadata to determine who a device belongs to and where it has been for the past 30 days.

"An IMSI is a unique 15-digit number tied to a cell phone’s SIM card that cellular networks use to identify users." So if they got your IMSI, they also got your SIM, and (I assume) your phone number. Does that require degrading the signal to 2G, which I don't think modern phones can do?

Smart phone vulnerability - being turned back on law-abiding American citizens, sounds like a turn of the century, Project 2000, that went completely unannounced and under the radar? I have no counter suggestion. Burner phones in this instance would seem to be an impractical solution?

THEIR PLAN🤬 RFK Jr: Dismantle the CDC Musk: Test Neuralink's brain chip. Peter Thiel: Collect & compile personal data (Palantir) for surveilance. Kristi Noem: Gather immigrants in concentration camps to test the device without legal consequences. Once successful, to be rolled out across the country.

Without a warrant seems to infer anything they collect would be barred from use in court, but that doesn’t forgive their obnoxiously intrusive monitoring of innocent Americans. Kind of like living in Russia, where everyone who visits is advised to take only a burner phone.

You might be surprised that people in the EU have long been advised to only bring burner phones to USA. I worked for a Swiss bank that actually had a large basket of "USA phones" for traveling employees.

No - the fact that the corrupt supreme court enabled Trump as a defacto dictator is deeply alarming, the fact that he regularly violates the constitution and they back him up on that is deeply alarming. Invasive surveillance is just expected at this point. It's normal for open, blatant fascism.

Buy a Faraday bag; airplane mode; password protection -- change once a week --- use words, slightly modified so scrambled but familiar; give your friend your phone away from the protest so it looks like you were somewhere else. Burners aren't safe anymore.
