I get many questions about, what exactly is the war powers resolution, and who really determines when we’re at war? Well, the answer is complicated, so I did a video to help explain. Here’s a clip, with the link to full video: youtu.be/q1oYRoixdKM?...

A big problem with war powers resolutions is that they force Congress to choose between (1) endorsing a prospective war before the fact, or (2) pulling the rug from under American diplomacy. There's no substitute for discrete, honest, and thorough consultation between the President and Congress.

The Tonkin Gulf resolution of 1964 and the Iraq war resolution of 2002 were the best examples of Congress given the choice of either "authorizing" a war or telling an adversary that war was off the table. The Boland Amendment was an outright prohibition violated by the Reagan Adminstration.

The War Powers Act is another fictional thing that some people in DC believe in but that Trumpedo ignores without consequence. Just more meaningless bullshit.

Adam how will you cope with Canadian prime minister describes close ties to U.S. as "weaknesses that we must correct" How will future presidents deal with the rest of the world not trusting the USA? Knowing that the next president might up end every thing like Trump

“a whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again." Tell us: what idiotic assholes are questioning whether we’re at war when the president says this? There’s no doubt we are at war, and we have an ineffective congress that won’t do anything about it.

I don't see the problem. The War Powers Act is essentially commentary on Article I of the Constitution which gives Congress the sole power to declare war. The rundown really is this: 1) A state of war (like we are in now with Iran) requires a declaration by Congress

2) A violation of U.S. terroritory by the armed forces of another country authorizes and indeed mandates the president to act as commander in chief to defend the country 3) Given a nuclear missle strike against the United States the president is authorized and mandated to respond.

The answer is not as complicated as you pretend: the determination about when you're at war is still, no matter how you try to bend it, the responsibility of the US population. That's what democracy is all about, but you wouldn't know, because you never experienced real democracy in the US.

War Powers, Schmore Powers. Johnson lied about Gulf Of Tonkin, Bush 43 lied about WMDs, Trump lied about nuclear tipped missiles 🚀. Thought: American learned how to “box” in WW2 and can’t stop? 😶

Adam. It’s a war. We started it. Any declaration at this point is window dressing. Impeachment for war crimes is what’s in order. The articles of impeachment write themselves: 1. Perfidy: attack under truce during negotiations. 2. Unprovoked War of aggression. 3. Acts of piracy. Get on it.
