A lot of peoples take on NixOS is and I quote "I don't understand this therefore it is objectively bad", which some people somehow think is a good take that we have to take seriously
actually okay to make a serious take: probably my most steaming "nixos is bad" take isn't absolute it's that people way overuse nixpkgs service modules and treat nixos like an orchestrator when it rly rly rly isn't
I see this all the time
yeah for one off services it's fine but the amount of delusion there is about this is concerning, how have some edgy nixos users negatively polarized themselves against containers?
The only exception for me is when k8s is off the chart, for any given reason, I think I prefer nixos as an "orchestrator" over puppet / ansible + Debian.
I think that is undeniably true, it’s really bad
But also like. There is no reason to run most things as systemd services when container orchestration exists
depends on what you mean by container orchestration
docker compose is evil, and I think you can get very far with systemd-maxxing (depending on what you're hosting). I've never actually used kubernetes so I can't speak to that
