The following comment by no means is meant to put down the cool work you do with the GSC API.... I believe the Bulk Data Export is the preferred way to go. If I am not mistaken, it will always pull more data out than the API.

I agree, and the article does admit that...if you are willing to take the very big step to understanding the data schema and working with the query language. There are some great free resources to help there, but you still need to really know what you are doing with the data.
