We desperately need someone to make an alternative to this piece of software.

Today,President Zelenskyy had a meeting with CEO of Palantir Technologies Alex Karp. Palantir's software is used extensively by Ukrainian Defenders for battlefield analysis, target acquisition, planning strikes.

Ah sorry I didn't reply earlier. Been having my hands full at work. I don't really know much about Palantir's stuff or the alternatives, I mostly know/use more lower-level software for investigations and forensics (link analysis, digital forensics, etc).

Not necessarily. As I understand it, it's a tool for joining data from multiple databases. Palantir sells consulting to set it up. The ethics issues are in who they sell to and the causes and philosophy its execs promote. That same tech could be used for contact tracing and finding missing kids.

Palantir has been working w/ Ukraine throughout the full-scale invasion. Back then, I wasn’t aware of the fascist leanings of its CEO. Having seen their work w/ ICE to supply software tools that use unconstitutional invasive surveillance on Americans, I sure wish Ukraine had gone a different way.

This American does not love Trump and hates what he is doing to the country and the world — Ukraine in particular. I want to see Ukraine defeat Russia, and that may mean having to make a deal with the devil (aka Palantir) to get there. All that said, deals with the devil are fraught with danger.

It feels like conceptually it would be easy. While on the other hand, building a system that's confident requires masses of data and ways of collection that basically ... aren't legal. And in Europe, we don't usually let companies break the law for our convenience. Is that bad?! I dunno.
