Our major launch sites are some of the greatest wilderness sanctuaries in the country. The wrong idea that locking down large swaths of wild land and blocking sprawl and human traffic is bad for wildlife is infecting otherwise smart people. If you really care about those animals, think harder.

The best bar on earth is the Coral Reef on Padre. The door person is a seventyish??? chain-smoking badass who will die before they let in an under-21. They live in a trailer south of the city proper, and can't keep the doors shut any more because Space X has thrown their longtime home into disarray.

The Coral Reef, halfway up the island, has karaoke seven nights a week. Go on an off-season Tuesday and sing ten songs if you want. You'll meet half a dozen new friends. You'll be halfway to buying property up the island and three picklebacks deep before you realize it's time to head out.

The coastal tip of Texas is a truly magical place for people and wildlife alike. SPI in particular is a destination for Texans who drive in from afar AND for Texans who can't go further north, because of federal border checkpoints 100 miles inland. It's truly a delight, and fuck Elon Musk.
