Just one way to hide text in text. Simply making text white will reveal the line when highlighted and the line takes up space. The hidden bit here will only show up when copypasted, scraped or read using TTS. ( visibility:hidden; does not work here. )

If you fool around a bit with paragraphs you can hide lines in lines, here under the "3". It's only visible when selecting (works with page scaling, here 220%). Selected invisible characters do show up as negative, though looking more like a bug. Font size can mitigate it, as seen after "Farted. "

Not if they are OCR, e.g. processing the page as an image, like how a smartphone does translation using the camera. If the screen reader can only do linear plaintext then the hidden messages (e.g. copyright notice / teacher's anti-cheat prompt) will be included in the braille or TTS.

Whether the text becomes unreadable depends on how and what you lace the text with. To a blind user, frequent completely random poison ( word nonsense ) would be the worst. A friendlier way to include that would be to isolate it to chapters that a character politely asks the reader to skip over.
