Gabrielle Drolet@gabrielledrolet.bsky.social

This is a technique I’ve used for years because of this one tweet from @sonnyross.bsky.social. Thank you Sonny for changing my life The book cover was designed by Talia Abramson at Penguin but they let me have a bit of a say over the colours. And I said boy do I have an idea….

can’t quote but btw elicia is 100% correct as to why it works. you can achieve the same effect by having a colour layer set to something like soft light (or whatever you prefer) on top of all your other layers. i do this on every single illustration i make (many MANY digital illustrators do this!)

also, if working traditionally with paint or whatever, you can make a harmonized palette by mixing a little bit of the same colour, into all your other colours including white) before you start working with them!

it’s just more fun to go “yeah i colour picked this part from kermit’s eyes and this part from rowlf’s nose and this part from ernie’s ear”
