I'm reading Small is Beautiful by Schumacher. He wrote about the same problems we face today — and that was 50 years ago!

SAM ALTMAN: “People talk about how much energy it takes to train an AI model … But it also takes a lot of energy to train a human. It takes like 20 years of life and all of the food you eat during that time before you get smart.”

The problems these men create with their solutions grow faster than the solutions themselves. "The direction of research should be towards nonviolence rather than violence, toward low energy."

It's not that we're 100% AI will make us live better. Again, Schumacher felt the opposite with machines: "The amount of real leisure a society enjoys tends to be in inverse proportion to the amount of labour-saving machinery it employs." Written 50 years ago — and truer than ever.

We need brains and hands, hands and brains — to enjoy creativity and feel useful. We need to bring back a human face to these technologies. And stop giving a platform to such dystopian discourse.
