We are pleased to announce that the Argot Collective and the @ethereum.foundation have completed the final phase of our original five-year funding commitment. Approximately 4,938 stETH will be transferred into a multi-sig wallet, with phased unlocks on 1 July 2026 and 1 July 2027.

For context: the EF committed to five years of operational runway when Argot was formed. The first three years were paid out in full last year. The remaining two years were pending finalization of terms and governance, which is now complete.

This gives the collective continued stability to develop and maintain core programming languages and tooling for Ethereum, with a focus on securing Solidity's long-term sustainability.

The funds are held in a 2-of-3 multi-sig controlled by Argot, a newly established Fail-Safe Committee, and the EF.

The FSC serves as an independent arbiter in case of dispute, a safeguard for Argot's independence, and a source of domain expertise on languages and compilers, providing feedback to Argot while offering neutral review to the EF. The full governance setup is detailed in the blog post.

While this agreement provides Argot with meaningful runway, the broader challenge remains. The EF's treasury is finite. The contracts that underpin DeFi, staking, and the core protocol are overwhelmingly compiled by solc. Everyone who builds on Ethereum has a stake in sustaining its foundations.
