I'm typically very hesitant to comment at all on celebrity deaths because they tend to be news stories that I'll likely cover and I have a policy about keeping my personal social media feeds clear of anything that might end up under my purview at work, but Peter Cullen's passing just hits too close.

While I know he's most well-known for Optimus Prime, I'm embarrassed to say I didn't grow up with OG Transformers and I think the first time I saw him play the character was in the 2007 Bay film. His performance in that film is so great though, I see why Optimus is so beloved.
I was so happy he got that role because as a Toonami fan, it was just cool to hear the Toonami guy flex his acting chops beyond being a cool announcer. But even as an announcer he could make anything sound incredibly epic...
...and could seamlessly transition to funny bits that take some of the seriousness away from the traditional big trailer voice. According to the Toonami team, he was one of the few voice actors who got it. He could make it funny in a way that few could.

He retired from basically all voice roles that weren't Eeyore and Optimus Prime, so he sadly never returned to Toonami when it was revived but seeing everyone online post all these trailers, proves what a big impact he had with just his voice on a bunch of commercials. Amazing career, indeed. RIP
