A lot of you are going to have to talk your way out of (even more) uncomfortable situations going forward and this is actually really solid advice. Voss (former lead FBI hostage negotiator) wrote a fantastic book on negotiation called Never Split the Difference. Good read.

Verbal Judo is also a favorite book of mine for guidelines on de-escalating tense situations. One of the co-writers gives seminars and consultation to police depts on de-escalation procedure and tactics and this is INDISPUTABLY a much preferable alternative to IDF-based neutralization training.

This person is not wrong at all. At ALL. But negotiation and de-escalation is a survival strategy and it will be imperative to a LOT of you to learn how to become very good at it. If you can't survive, you won't be around to organize.
