Arsenal first broke my heart with they sold David Herd to Manchester United in 1961 – he scored 97 goals in 166 games (I looked it up). Without him we probably would have been relegated we were so bad. There have been others down the years, but astonishingly that one still hurts

I respect your opinion but when a player doesn't want to leave and Martinelli made it clear he didn't want to leave. What are the club supposed to do keep a player they don't want on big wages or try and push him out the door? Some of our fans need to face reality he wasnt in Arteta's plans.

There is a real sense of loss here, palpable, almost like someone special has died… he came just before the pandemic, homeschooled my four girls for a two years… Arsenal were such exquisitely confounding company at that time, but so important…he was integral to that critical outside connection. 🥹😭❤️

One of my favorite Arsenal players of the last 15 years. How authentically he loved the club, worked his arse off, and seemed to be a good kid was so endearing. Like an adopted nephew. I wanted it all to work out for him and it didn’t quite. But can never question his commitment! Always a Gunner.

If you listen to our dopey fan base you would think he was Henry and Bergkamp rolled into one. In the last 3 seasons he was an average player on massive wages. The reason why only one club in Europe wanted to sign him told the story. Remember our fans losing their heads when we bought Raya

Fans can be attached to players not because of goals and assists, just representing the club with passion can be enough. Gabi means a lot because he helped drag us through the transition from Emery to champions. If you can’t see that then I don’t think you have the right to call anyone “dopey”.

He provided some important moments but had basically become the “come off the bench and run at the tired defense guy.” Wish they had acquired one more forward but it doesn’t change the fact that he is a squad player now.

My daughter has lost her 4 favorite players in one summer with Trossard, Gaby, McCabe and Mead all gone and i've tried my best to "rationalise it" for her but i cant say i wasnt a bit emotional myself when i saw his official exit last night.

For whatever it is worth, Arteta spoke glowingly about him in his press conference! As for Gabi, Arsenal gave him a great platform and compensated him very well. We, as fans, loved him and will love him. But, the Club is not at the same level as it was 7 years ago. It was a good time to move on!!
