We know how to teach books in the age of AI: small classes, close reading, research-engaged learning (which is how you ’let students see you struggle’). The issue is nobody will hire and pay the requisite # of faculty to offer this.

We keep discussing ”strategies” for teaching in the age of AI to avoid talking about resources. It’s so boring!! The strategy is invest $ to hire people, lower class size, support research-engaged learning & stop measuring the worth of disciplines in relation to # of enrollments and majors.

I know, I know: it’s illegal to discuss things like higher ed labor practices and the political economy of the university on the oped page of major newspapers like the New York Times: only a utopian vision of the classroom as a pure space of teaching and learning completely insulated from capitalism

You cannot publish the phrase “reverse decades of structural disinvestment in public higher education” at the New York Times. It’s illegal. You’d be arrested.
