If you use a frontend to launch emulators and you use MAME, you may not have realized that there are some games playable in MAME that don't need any roms to run. These games are early TTL games that don't have any chips in them. There are four of them working, Pong, Pong Doubles, Rebound & Breakout.

You can launch these games from the MAME menu or the command line but if you use a frontend or retroarch they won't be appearing in your game lists because there isn't a rom file so you may not even realize they are there.

The simple answer is to create an empty zip file in your mame roms directory for each of the games, pong.zip, pongd.zip, breakout.zip and rebound.zip. Now you can select the fake zip file from the frontend and MAME will fire up the game.
