I have been done with journalism for the longest…covering and debating offensive, disgusting, and habitual lies like it’s legitimate subjects for daily discussion. I can’t watch news and barely use social media anymore because of it.

To be honest, I would rather have a stenographer's account of what was said/done by someone, than the opinion of an observer about what I should think about it. I'm quite capable of forming my own opinions. If the public needs opinions fed to them, the problem is much bigger than the media.

Not a huge leap from "vaccines and horse de-wormers have both been used in the fight against COVID" to "some say brown citizens should be allowed to stay in the US while others think kidnapping them is ok"

ABC should get multiple chapters in the upcoming tome 'Profiles in Cowardice'. Any actual journalist at ABC with even a shred of integrity should be looking for an exit pronto. I have to ask, since I'm not a consumer of their product, do any of their journalists have even a shred of integrity?

Journalists et al who pay more deference to equal time than equal credibility will later find that authoritarians will give them neither. Such subservience mocks truth & justice.

The paradox of tolerance is a philosophical concept suggesting that if a society extends tolerance to those who are intolerant, it risks enabling the eventual dominance of intolerance; thereby undermining the very principle of tolerance.

Yes and no. Understanding both sides is not the same as giving each side equivalence For example He's a fascist v no he isn't Especially when he's the president of the United States and he's clearly a fascist. It's not bothsidesism; but having a fascist president that's suicide for democracy

No such thing as objectivism in politics, journalism, or education. Everyone, every party, every curriculum has a perspective. Trumpers win because they are honest about it. Dems lose whe they are wishy-washy, scaredy-cats.

Agreed, but it's not just becoming 'stenographers' rather acting as 'loudhailers' uncritically broadcasting a false message as 'balance' instead of calling it out as a falsehood. Welcome to the US learning lessons from Brexit.

Un biais qui a gangréné tous les média et qui a largement contribué à la montée du RN, entre autre. Ex ce soir encore un long sujet sur Quotidien qui par ailleurs fait mine de les combattre (+ Édouard Philippe, la totale)

I think it was Lesley Stahl who recently spoke about how/why outfits like fox news and msnbc became confused with real journalism. This is exactly that idea - an echo chamber is just that, an echo chamber, not news.

Hitler was a Nazi, a German fascist. Fascism is the political model to which many hue. Is Netanyahu any less a genocidal fascist, like Hitler? Nazism is simply a specific flavor of fascism. Franco was another flavor of fascist. Partido Fascista Mexicano, Italian fascists, anyone can be a Fascist.

Agreed. Terry's words were only notable, in that most everyone else in the mainstream has been cowed. They have a moral duty to the truth. The republicans in congress aren't the only ones failing to do their duty. Major networks, 77 million, owners of news sources, Facebook, Twitter, etc..

It's worse than that (in US). We have the same issue here, the BBC feels *obligated* to simply broadcast, not report, not verify, not challenge. You have that with MSM in USA but, you also have Fox & many others that don't do the same, they actively push the rights message & undermine centre/left.

ABC's real concern is feeding innocuous predigested pap to it's viewers, one in particular, so as to maintain a high level of viewership and therefore maximize ad revenue. Legacy media have long since abrogated any semblance of performance as the traditional forth estate. They are shit shoveler's.

Earlier, I saw an NBC reporter breathlessly repeating every word Trump said. She mentioned Newsom and Trump were having "words," brushing off Newsom without recounting a single thing he said. This kind of thing happens a million times a day.

Of course, a large segment of democracy-loving Americans have known this and written about it since "MAGA" became a thing. Maybe, as with MAGA lies, continuing to repeat it will convince the uninformed that it's true.
