Freedom of the press is not an appendage of power. The media must have the courage to hold those in power accountable, rather than bowing to them.

Trump probably figured that even in event of the worse case scenario, it was only a couple bad news cycles before the press moved on.

The press can’t keep treating access as the story while the White House treats reporters as props. If being in the room means swallowing each new abuse and moving on, that access is serving Trump far more than it serves the public.
