Yes, why did America decide that it would be better to have dedicated and free transportation to pick up kids and shuttle them back and forth to school instead of making them take public transportation? Surely, a five year old is in no danger on a bus full of strangers.

At some point, you must explain to me why kids in America have dedicated yellow school buses. I know they're iconic but I've never really understood why it helps to have a dedicated fleet of buses that are only used twice a day for half the year. In England we just use... buses. Tell me!

I would argue that if transit is safe you can let kids use it to get to and from school instead of a completely dedicated fleet. Speaking as a person who used the city busses to get to and from school from 6th grade on up.
