There’s a quote I’ve had tattooed at the top of the work/shop page for a while, from Martín Espada: “No change for the good ever happens without being imagined first, even if, at the moment we imagine this great change, it seems absolutely impossible.”

But imagination is a practice, and like most practices, it can run aground. We need space to come back to it, to learn new techniques, to deepen our skills; we need a refuge from all the wrong-headedness and fear and greed, where we can safely regroup. That’s what this work/shop is about.

This will be the 7th cohort, and I’ve seen over and over that a practice of writing and noticing in community—bolstered by liberatory philosophies of abolition, feminism, and utopian thinking—is immensely powerful for training that imagination, and then showing the way forward, step by step by step.

The work/shop is a small, confidential, LLM-free space. We will write for ourselves and for each other as humans, oriented towards a future of work that is big enough for our spirits. Everyone who applies must agree to abide by the code of conduct: everythingchanges.us/workshop/sf/...
