Where are Democrats or the media calling the purchase of Intel as socialism? Or them saying it is socialism to tell companies what to do? Either use this opportunity to soften the country's image of the term "socialism" or attack Trump for his socialist policies. Problem is NEITHER is happening.

That is not a terrible idea. Public money was used in the research done at those universities, so why shouldn't the public benefit? Versions of this idea have been floating around for years from the Left. Yes, we know that anything Trump touches turns to shit, but this IDEA is not a terrible one.

Our government prints dollars to pay for university research that produces patents. Then those patents are sold off on the cheap to corporations who want to buy them because they think they can make some profits. So I guess Trump is saying that he wants universities to become mass manufacturers?

Better to take a share of the drug profits from Big Pharma, if we paid to develop them. And how about Big Oil? Right now, we’re underwriting profitable oil companies to the tune of billions of our tax dollars. How about instead, they pay US back?

Weird that the proposal is coming from right wingers but Bernie digs it 🤷‍♂️😄 If USA had a stake in all companies it was giving freebies to(tax credits, grants, amortizations, deductions, fake paper losses etc etc) then we would not be 37 trillion in debt now 😜 Smarten the fuck up or go bankrupt 😉

So, billionaires choose extortion over paying their fair share of taxes. Soon, our economy and world standing will look like Russia's but we won't have friends, either capitalist or communist

Shouldn't the government have had a discussion on sharing patent revenue with universities before cutting off funding? Once again, a legitimate issue, but the worst tactics. Who bludgeons someone on point A, then wants to negotiate on point B? This administration has no sense of strategy & tactics.

Bad idea. University license fees are $4B. Not much there. The govt ALREADY earns huge returns on grants. They get 40% of salary for new jobs created plus 20% of new stock value created. That's worth 1000X more. Our univ spinouts are envy of world! Don't mess with success.
