I was just about to write this. Poor enough, sick enough, or old enough you qualify for Medicaid or Medicare and the government pays. Why not help people stay healthy before the sh$t hits the fan. I tell people we need to get rid of Medicare and Medicaid if we aren’t going to get universal care.

1-The government doesn’t pay for Medicare/aid, our taxes do. 2-Treating illnesses without preventive care can be blamed on medical school curriculum. 3-We all age, parts wear out, accidents, acute and chronic diseases happen TO ALL! The system is broken, not the need for it! Medicare For All

I agree with Medicare for all. But treating illness instead of prevention is NOT a curriculum problem. It is an American lifestyle problem. It’s an American priorities problem. It is an American healthcare system problem. We can always learn more about prevention. But there is more to the story

I agree 100%. I only have 300 characters to try to make a point. I tend to use all 300! We are living in a time where there is a confluence of factors that contribute to our poor health. It takes seconds to write a prescription, hours to educate. That’s only part of the problem.

You are absolutely right. As a physician, I get a little defensive when people tell me that doctors only want to write prescriptions. That is true for some doctors. They only want to make money by doing unnecessary procedures as well. But the vast majority of us try to do the right thing.

My health system expects me to see three patients an hour, but has very little in terms of support when it comes to nutrition, exercise, or mental health. They closed the diabetic education program because it was not making enough money. That’s the ridiculous system that we are stuck with. Yuck

I’m too close to retirement to switch to a different system. But believe me I use my voice and influence when I can. Fortunately, we have a new lifestyle program that is truly fantastic. But a lot of it also relies on insurance and the ability for patients to participate from a time perspective
