🚽 Wastewater Data ▶︎ Chico: 🟡 Moderate / 🔴 High ▶︎ Oroville: 🟢 Low (nearly 🟡 Moderate) Graphs: bc19.live Chico's had three new measurements come in this week, covering July 28th and 29th, and August 3rd. The first shows 🔴 High, others show 🟡 Moderate.

If I zoom out and look at the graph, we can see an upward trend for the past month. We saw the same behavior last Summer, preceding a surge into Very High territory. That doesn't mean we will this time, but it's a possibility. We do know it's at much higher levels than it's been all year.

Oroville's latest measurement (July 29th) has it on the border of 🟢 Low and 🟡 Moderate. It's expected that we'd start to see an increase there.

💉 Vaccines On last week's discussion on the Facebook report, there were questions about when we'll see new vaccines targeting the current strains. It looks like this is in the works, and targeting Fall sometime.

This should cover one of the strains that appears to be going around right now (XFG.1). I haven't been able to find information about whether it'll cover the other strain that's growing (BA 3.2).

There's not nearly as much useful information on which strains are present locally as there once was, so it's getting harder to gauge this.

😷 Precautions Based on past years, what we're now seeing in the data for Butte County, and what's going on throughout California, we should prepare for a surge.

If you're at risk of health complications, and haven't had a booster in a while, it would be a good idea to talk to your doctor about options. Masking up and avoiding crowded indoor gatherings during a surge has also been a proven way to reduce your chances of catching the virus.

Fortunately, none of the current strains appear to be any more severe than what we've seen in the past year, though complications from COVID are still a concern for many.
