X where you can't read posts properly without having an account, you can't even look at a users profile or change a videos volume. Worst platform out there.

nitter.net is down. xcancel.com may go soon, too. all the respect to the folks at nitter for their services so far, but to be honest, X completely locking itself out of the web is probably a net positive for us all in the long term

To be fair, X as as much hostile as Facebook (or any Meta service) when you do not have an account there. So they are not breaking ground here with their user hostility. It will be interesting to see how this plays out, since X lifeblood is getting cited everywhere. This is a bit different than FB

It is not that Bluesky is completely free from user hostile parts like the "nuclear block" that breaks threads, or public moderation lists, which invites toxic labeling and a revenge culture. Also, even Bluesky blocks posts from the outside, if an account requests it ->

Bluesky really doesn't make it easy to interact if you're on the Fediverse side of things.

I think what is bad is that Twitter - before Elon came in - was quite open and allowed you to access their API, their website, etc. because it was really a "towncentre". Now that Elon got it he closed everything off and put paywalls up.

Twitter was already hostile to some extent before Elon took it over. 3rd party apps did not work, the API got shut down or crippled long before Elon ruined Twitter completely. All in the name of keeping users on the platform and pushing ads.

Yeah, I also think it is likely that you will not get the same visibility without paying on X now.

Sadly people still often send me X links - so I guess now I just have to tell them "nah can't see this, try again on an actually open website".
