We keep looking for the thing that makes the system work: the leader, the algorithm, the tree, the mushroom. Maybe that’s the mistake. Perhaps the interesting thing isn’t the nodes at all. It’s the relationships between them—and what becomes possible when they connect.

Yes. And maybe that means maintenance isn’t secondary to the Network… it’s one of its fundamental processes. Care can only travel along pathways that still conduct it. Maybe tending a relationship is less like preserving something and more like keeping the Network permeable.
