AI can't replace so-called "soft skills" either. They are the skills that make us human and super effective. I hate to say it, but just slingin' code is risky for the long term. Getting real good at communicating, planning and optimising will set you apart.

In the age of AI, short form video and hot takes, the competitive advantage of the future is the ability to go deep, read the docs, build something new, learn hard things that take time.

No creativity, no reasoning, no emotion. They have to eat the elephant in one bite, so to speak. They don’t have the luxury of working halfway on a problem, and then deciding a new, simpler way to do it. They cant converse with their peers. They’re prediction algorithms!

AI helped me with soft skills a lot actually, writing, summarising and giving ideas when I’m really stuck has been really refreshing. Mostly, writing was the best soft skill AI helps me with 🤔

That's very interesting to hear. I've found it the exact opposite but I'm glad you've actually found a use for AI tbh

yes! especially for reviews me: i worry if i share wip, people will think its poopoo chatgpt: one area I’m working on is building the confidence to share my work early, even if it doesn’t fully reflect my current abilities, as I recognize the value of showcasing progress and learning from feedback

I agree! LLMs have been surprisingly effective when I’m feeling stuck. I tend to have a pretty negative/catastrophic outlook when I am stressed (often), so I will dump my unfiltered thoughts into ChatGPT with a prompt to reframe things in a more positive, corporate-friendly tone. It helps!

AI is a tool, it won't fully replace us but it should help us focus and strengthen our soft skills, leaving time-consuming and easy to automate tasks to computers. Why should I spend 30% of my time repeating the same CLI commands over and over? However, pitfall would be to forget those CLI commands

This is why I get super confused about people bragging they have AI writing their emails and stuff. Like, if I ask YOU a question and you have AI respond, aren’t you just making yourself useless? Your human perspective is the VALUE you (supposedly) provide.
