I wonder if the younger Go programmers have ever thought about why the Dial function in the net package is called Dial and not, for example, Connect. :) #golang #development

It comes from Plan 9 which could have used UNIX TCP/IP connect() but dial() needed a new name, because it was supposed to be more general, dialing with any network technology parsed from the address. So it is not just archaic telephone parlance.
