Doing some comps for work: I signed up for Fb, X, and TikTok— all clean accounts. First you’re suffocated by slop. Then it’s a masterclass in permission over reach and engagement dark patterns. X gates your feed with a notification permission request— with a countdown to skip.

I’m not really precious about the whole format of social media in 2026. I think we’re toast. I don’t know what’s next, but it isn’t more hot takes, flashing memes, and so much nauseating sponsored content.

Making mediocre, but sufficient digital things got really easy recently. I have conflicting feelings. But text on a screen from confident strangers, robots, and pr firms seem like a dead end. Posting feels like trying to have a conversation on a freeway with some very preferred lanes.

It gets old being in a noisy bar. Things on screens are a little suss and conferences feel like LinkedIn cosplay. The day of corpo sponsored meetups feels like ancient times. Local lecture circuits? idk.
