My spouse and I track each other's location. We were talking about if we want to keep doing it. We both just like knowing where our human is in case they need us. It certainly helped when I got assaulted and my spouse easily found me. But it's mostly just nice to know when they will get home.

I tried telling people exactly this. It does not work. We are in lizard brain zone with this stuff and I am afraid it’s too late. People have told me they’d rather have the cia track their kids than give up the “control” of tracking their loved ones. Can’t argue with that.

But I definitely don't want the CIA to know what my spouse is up to. That's invasive. I would give up location tracking if I knew it would protect us from feds. I'm just not convinced me turning off location tracking would accomplish that

Your cell carrier knows where you are with significant precision 24/7 and sells this data. There is no local setting on any cellular device that changes this fact We could design the system so that this info is was available for technical operations but that isn’t what we do

This is why the positioning that this is about people choosing to track their family members is frustrating. Like what I choose to do doesn't matter given the way the infrastructure works.
