But who exactly are the prey? The readers, obviously, consuming junk mostly. The authors, reaching largely useless readers. You, missing the odd worthwhile piece that slips through.

Since predators are mainly after the money brought in from APCs and other charges, the prey is any entity paying those charges for a defective product; A group comprising authors, institutions, and funders. Although you make good points relating to collateral damage from predatory publishing
