My hot take about working with LLMs for coding is that it’s a pretty poor substitute of pairing with a good developer (I’ve been lucky enough to pair with smart, intelligent, fun devs). To use a coffee analogy: LLMs are like instant coffee. Can do the job, but it’s not the same as the real thing.

You are still in the hand-holding, looking over your shoulder phase. You have to get in the "managing" phase, were you tell the specs, how to validate it and go. I think pairing and meetings are coming back strongly once we realise that we don't need to babysit the agents, but decide what to build

I think my hot take comes precisely from my experience “managing” agents. I 100% don’t want to do that 😅 I want to pair with my friends!

What I mean is that you can pair with your friends to define the work, look at analytics, talk architecture and design, write the specs... The agent does the code in the background. Writing code is not a job anymore. (And they don't pay you for hanging out with your friends doing a hobby)
