On June 6, 1944, young men ran through artillery & machine gun fire on the beaches of Normandy to defeat fascism and free a continent.. To honor the heroes of D-Day isn’t just to remember what they did.. It’s to remain vigilant against the same hatred, authoritarianism and fascism..

My grandpa landed by boat at Normandy, June 13th. He fought through those French hedgerows & earned a bronze star in the process. Later he was at the Battle of the Bulge and eventually made his way into the Czech Republic. We have his photo journal from the war. It’s really humbling to look through

Imagine this, as these paratroopers encountered French civilians. Here's a french speaking yankee in his heavily boston- accented, but perfect french. Imagine the joy of those civilians! "Nous sommes américains ! Nous sommes ici pour vous libérer du fardeau du fascisme." Nous sommes américains!

My father lost an uncle in December of 1944 in Belgium fighting those Nazi bastards possibly during the Battle Of The Bulge, and here we are fighting different Nazi bastards in our own government.

Humans have a short memory—like NONE. Europe still bears the scars of Hitler’s war against humanity—entire cities leveled, iconic history decimated, MILLIONS brutally exterminated and yet, right wing rhetoric still has a voice?
