Lately I've been trying out SiYuan, a PKM app like Notion, but fully FOSS. It has a couple of rough edges, but I'm liking it so much I've already migrated all my documents from Joplin to it! I've also created a freehand drawing plugin based on js-draw (the same one Joplin uses), it's fun!

Now I need to force myself not to try any more PKM software. It's way too easy for me to spend an infinite time focusing on the setup, without doing any actual work. To help myself with that, I chose to buy a SiYuan premium plan, so now I have some more stake in keeping using SiYuan 😅

I've tried SiYuan but wasn't a big fan of the compromises of paid vs non paid, I've been much more fond of AnyType personally

I hadn't heard of it, but it looks nice! I'm gonna have to resist the urge to try it :P The nice thing about SiYuan premium features is that since all code is FOSS, you can compile your version without the online license validation (there are several forks on GitHub like this)

So basically you're paying the price to have the official support and to use an app which auto-updates. You could do just as well with the fork and Obtanium. It's a bit like those apps that publish for free online and paid on MS Marketplace, in a way. I mostly chose to buy to support the devs.

Yeah fair, I did see that you can do that - I never got around to it because I'd rather have something I can sync between my phone and pc easily (hence my choice of AnyType) It is undoubtedly an awesome project, and a bit more notion-like than AnyType is though :)
