My Claude Code subscription pays for itself. I get more out of it in function and $ than I put in it. This morning's session got me 100% of the features I use for a running app I subscribe to.

In this case it was Runna/Strava. I wanted something to tell me where I need to improve, what type of workouts I should focus on, and what my trends are. Put together something that does exactly that. I don’t need an app to tell me about workouts as I already know those.

I gotta say, my initial feeling about this post is that it's kind of a bummer - Strava has been an app that's been around since 2009 and gotten millions engaged in fitness, while also creating community. The trend of replacing passionate devs' successful projects with bespoke AI-generated

replacements will make it impossible for devs to gain any foothold in a flooded market -- and ultimately the end result will be more money/power being concentrated in big companies like Anthropic and OpenAI. And it will also make it harder for humans to connect and share information with each

other. That said - it's been a while since I've used Strava due to a foot injury, and was disappointed to see how much the app seems to have gone downhill. Multiple buyouts and each leadership iteration making decisions to squeeze users, gate features, raise subscription prices, violate user

privacy. So I guess..fuck Strava and enjoy your bespoke ai-generated running app? I stand by my concerns about where this is headed in the big picture, but a more optimistic view is that at least apps will have to think twice about squeezing customers - be awesome or be replaced, no more lock-in.
