i'm starting to realize we'll be able to move a lot more than our 1-1 chats/calls to signal. we're all already there (or getting there). we can also transfer our private open source governance conversations that are currently happening in discord private channels. ux works out using chat folders

i promise we will eventually move public community chats to an open source and open protocol network, we're not ready for that battle

yes, our current thinking is that we can already move a lot of our private comms to signal, and that we will need to keep our public communities comms on discord (because network effects and ux there are unbeatable right now)

Zulip or discourse seems fine for me for the public stuff, also. Not sure discord UX is that meaningful to me... Maybe I'm too old or too FOSS to see much value in it

i don't know if you would enjoy trying it out discord, so i won't share the link, but if one day you'd like to do a call, i can show you how we are using it for communities at the scale of npmx and we share notes. we have tried alternatives and nothing is ready for the way we do open source yet
