About time! Unlike Autism Bewareness month in April, making people aware of the impact of EDS and it's equally nasty and incurable Hypermobile Spectrum Disorder (HSD) is urgently needed. We need more reseach into these two connective tissue disorders to find effective treatments and therapies. 1/

Too many people with EDS or HSD suffer chronic pain, fatigue and disability. It's not just about having a body that's a bit more bendy than average. It affects much more than just joints - any connective tissue can be affected. Conditions like POTS and Fibromyalgia often co-occur. 2/

Access to diagnosis is patchy, and often the only help offered is physiotherapy, which can be painful and counter-productive. I have skin in this game - a relative has severe HSD, equivalent to EDS (which they probably have - diagnosing physio said not EDS as " no unexplained stretch marks"). 3/

Spoiler : they do, and she was told, but she stressed her young Autistic patient so much that she didn't get round to examining them before imminent shut-down brought the appointment to a close. The appointment was so bad, I made a formal complaint. Physio was recommended but delayed for 6 months. 4

They are connective tissue disorders. Joints, muscles and ligaments are too stretchy and this leads to joint instability (dislocation or sub-luxation, where the joint briefly slips out of place. It can also affect veins and arteries, so the whole circulatory system. www.ehlers-danlos.org
