Hey folks, there's a BOOMSTOCK event on steam, and a lot of those neat Rootin' Tootin' Point'n'Shootin' games are on sale. Now, there's a lot of them there Quakenstein games, how do I know which ones are good? Well, let me suggest a few of my favourites so you can get some bang for your buckshot!

1. HROT Yeah, I absolutely adore this game. It starts off very Quake, with a distinctly brutalist Soviet architecture vibe going on, but gets spookier than you'd expect. There's some moments in this game that scared me more than many full fledged horror games. I hope to do a video about this soon.

2. Selaco I am once again telling you to play Selaco, it is one of the best out of all the oldschool FPS games you could possibly play, it's just phenomenal. The developers have put so much effort into making the game world so reactive to the moment to moment firefights, it's like a John Woo movie.

3. Turbo Overkill This is a lot more modern in its sensibilities, and movement is the game in Turbo Overkill because you'll be sliding and wall running all over the shop dashing into enemies with your chainsaw leg. It's one impossibly slick feeling cybergore shooter, also has Jon St.John!

4. MULLET MAD JACK Just in case Turbo Overkill wasn't fast enough, in this rougelike shooter you have mere seconds to live, and you gotta move fast and kill faster to get more precious seconds of life. Everything about this game's 90s anime sizzle reel vibe is absurd and larger than life. I

5. Prodeus One of the wettest games I've ever played on account of how you paint every surface with gore, the weapons are varied and feel unbelievably punchy and powerful, the sound design is incredible, marvelously intricate and varied level design. Prodeus is just top tier, and juicy as it gets.

6. Cultic This doesn't seem to be included in the sale, or maybe it's slow to update? But if it's not on sale... Buy it anyway! I'm not kidding, it's ten bucks for chapter one and easily worth it. Cultic is an incredibly crunchy horror tinged FPS with a phenomenal soundtrack. It's truly top tier.

I sort of feel the game loses it by the end. The difficulty balancing was also a bit out of wack since you could just rush in to kill things, die, respawn, and thin the herd. It's good, but I hope the expansion fixes some things.
