Good to see this finally getting attention. In theory, Republicans still have time to extend the IRA subsidies by another year in a separate bill, if only to avoid the midterm backlash. Not much time, though, as 2026 rates are locked in by September. They won’t, but they could.

An insane/accurate headline in FL that is a harbinger of things to come for the rest of the country. Why will so many in FL lose health care? Because thanks to the GOP, federal ACA subsidies will expire, and FL has the highest proportion of enrolled residents. www.palmbeachpost.com/story/news/s...

They’d actually have to make it at least *two* years to avoid a midterm backlash, actually, since insurance carriers send out premium notices in October and Open Enrollment starts November 1st…just days ahead of Election Day.

Florida has over 4.7 MILLION residents enrolled in #ACA exchange plans...over 20% of the entire state population! 97% of them are currently subsidized. This will plummet. Over 2.3 MILLION of them currently pay less than $10/month after subsidies. That's going to plummet.

With those caveats: --a single 50-yr old earning $40K/yr would go from $154/mo to $258/mo. --a single parent earning $30K/yr would go from $0/mo to $87/mo. --a family of 4 earning $70K/yr would go from $148/mo to $378/mo. --a 64-yr old couple earning $90K would go from $638/mo to $2,236/mo.

The insurance has become unusable in the last few years. They have made the deductibles so high the payer never reaches them unless they have a catastrophic illness and then still need to pay thousands.
