Afro Palestinians are the descendants of Sudanese slaves who were liberated by the British when they forcibly outlawed slavery among Palestinians in the 1930s. To this day many of them are referred to as abeed - slaves - and live in a part of East Jerusalem palestinians call the slave quarters.

It’s the host who let it pass without real pushback in the moment. It’s the commentators now rushing to reframe it. It’s the media figures excusing it as cultural ignorance rather than calling it what it is. 3/4
