Today the fertilizer industry celebrates “Global Fertilizer Day,” but here’s the reality: chemical fertilizers are fossil fuels in disguise. 🔴 🛢️ #GlobalFertilizerDay #FoodJustice

Far from securing our future, chemical fertilizers tie our food system to fossil fuel extraction and trade — driving climate emissions, health risks, and food price inflation.

Because up to 80% of chemical fertilizer costs are tied to fossil gas, global market shocks inflate agricultural input costs. It means that when gas prices rise, food prices rise too — fertilizer companies profit while farmers and communities pay. 📈 ⚠️

The cost of chemical fertilizers isn't just financial. Run-off contaminates waterways and groundwater, while production and application release air pollution linked to cancer, reproductive harm, and respiratory illness.
