What sort of compression is used on SNES fonts? Compression stuff is really interesting when it has to work with a modest CPU

I started playing around in RPG Maker years ago, and the amount of things actual games did to get around issues with the designer are just crazy. I would never have appreciated it if I didn't get to try it myself.

I love seeing that stuff though because it tells its own story about the history of games, how fonts became almost a signature for different companies, almost a sign of their unique creativity.
