Rep. Seth Moulton (D-Mass.) is calling out Massachusetts incumbent candidate 80-year-old Sen. Ed Markey (D) ahead of their primary race. CNN's Manu Raju reports on this new pattern emerging among younger candidates in the Democratic Party.

I'm a HUGE proponent of challenging incumbents. Why should you get a free pass to the general election, and in many races to Congress or Governor, just bc you're the incumbent? Issues need to be discussed and fleshed out so the voters can truly decide, especially in the age of gerrymandering.

I don't care how good Sen. Market has been, or how progressive he is. Clinging to power in your 80's is pure hubris. For goodness sake there are more than enough geriatrics in politics. Bring in age limits for office and the Supreme Court, like most other professions.

Markey has become one of the Senate's most prominent voices for issues that are associated with the younger Democratic left — the Green New Deal, climate activism, stronger labour policies, and expanded social programmes. He has no health scares. For all we know, Moulton could die first.
