how do yall go about choosing new books to read? i'm finding goodreads/online recommendations feel progressively more like AI slop so i've recently been going into local bookstores and reading book jackets until something catches my eye

The recommendations have always been slop. I just run short lists for studies/fiction/poetry selected from my want to read pile. There's usually something I can find from those though it's always a pain to cross-reference.

I’m on Goodreads and even though I don’t (yet) feel the same about recos I heard a lot of good things about Storygraph?! Anyone tried/is on that? Besides that, about 80% of my recommendations always came from book stores. Honestly, find yourself a good one, they will learn your preferences 🥰🥰

yeah i think that's where i'm settling - only issue is i live in Berlin and thus my English bookstore range is smaller 😆 there's a great scifi/fantasy bookstore i really like to go to that's served me well on this front so far though!

Hmm I see - funnily enough over the past couple month I purchased some pretty good books out of a very very limited selection in various cities across Europe 🙈 Sometimes you just gotta be lucky 😌
