In D&D 5.5e, I can cast Levitate on myself, allowing me to rise 20' per 6 seconds. That's 200' per minute. If I maintain concentration for its full 10 minutes, I could reach 2000', at which point I would drift gently back to earth. My character is a proficient cartographer. That seems handy.
