My kid had a really irritated throat after a bbq and I had seen a post from a nurse about this so I asked the doctor to check and they laughed and said this was not a thing. In his case it was not but the ignorance surprised me

Smh. Sorry to hear that. It's absolutely a thing. It's not the most common injury, so it's possible most Drs may never see a patient that has this happen, but it happens enough that it's worth checking for if the circumstances are right.
