It’s Sunday, so let’s share the good word: If churches want to play politics, they can pay taxes like the rest of us. God doesn’t need a tax break, but millionaire pastors sure seem to love one.

I agree if being a pastor is your only job and are being paid should be taxed. Jesus wasn’t paid for his services. Money should only be used to pay for property and charity not to pay clergy.

CALL YOUR SENATORS Tell them to vote NO on HR 9495, The "Non-Profit Killer" Bill (the misleading official name is "Stop Terror-Financing and Tax Penalties on American Hostages") Use 5calls.org or Capitol Switchboard 202 224 3121 For info and to send emails: action.aclu.org/send-message...

In Canada, political donations are much more tax-deductible. One religion even became a political party (as Revenue Canada saw) to take advantage of this. Agree churches must stay out of partisan politics. But not stay out of preaching & enacting social justice implications of the Gospel.

I agree 💯, if churches want to play they have to pay like the rest of us. If not they need to stay in their place, it’s just that simple.

As a former LDS member and priest, I cannot tell you how much I love this. Also tax the church to pay for universal health care. It’s what Jesus Christ would want. Sick of the hypo-Christians and the immorality of the church.

Personal Opinion----Agreed---there is nothing "Christian" about these PUTRID church's who claim to work for God.....He sees these heretics for what they are.....Heretics in the Synagogue....they dishonor those who do work for the good of mankind.....

Due to their tax exempt status, these religious corporations have amassed obscene wealth in REAL ESTATE! The powerful christian nationalism groups hold power now. 10 commandments & orange bibles in public schools is just the beginning.

That's explicitly unconstitutional though, "no religious test for office" means you can't exclude folks for being non-Christian while also not being able to exclude em for being Christian

I’m not saying we exclude anyone based on their beliefs - just that they can’t use their office to foist those beliefs on others. We have separation of church & state guaranteed in our Constitution - we need to defend & keep that right.

We don't have a separation of church & state, we have a "no establishment of religion" clause. I know it sounds pedantic, though it's important coz it means govt can recognize religion so long as it doesn't discriminate against religions. Why Congress, SCITUS opens with prayer etc.

I agree that it isn't pay to play, and that religion just needs to stay out of secular issues, but no taxation without representation. There are good reasons for why people say that to the point that it has become a mantra.

In our old church, the pastor's wife ran for Republican state representative & then 4 re-election. Both times, it was learned that they used the church for campaign activity. The worst thing, though, is that her husband urged from the pulpit "that if you are a Christian, you can't vote Democrat" 😠.

Ireland was god obsessed until the 80s, then common sense prevailed. WTF is wrong with Americans? Why is your god a gun toting, right wing, racist, war mongering, capitalist areshole? Are the 10 commandments old hat, even "love thy neighbour"? Who exactly is your god, that you endlessly evoke!

We need to bring back respect for the country and the people. Parents used to teach their kids to respect the Constitution and their Church by keeping religion out of the public square. Jesus told his followers to respect their religion but these hacks have never read their "Good Book".

Not an option. Keep religion out of politics and public services. Period. This isn't a negotiation. Also, no taxation without representation. Seems fair.

I would agree, but my ELCA Lutheran church, is barely getting enough from members to keep the building in shape and keep the lights on. It’s a liberal congregation and couldn’t afford to pay taxes too!

American Megachurch pastors are businessmen and financial fraudsters. I am a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and an academic theologian. The damage these apostate pastors have done to the name of Christ is horrendous. Jesus says, 'By their fruits ye shall know.' Their end product is Trump!

An establishment of religion is a state funded religion via taxpayers. Many settlers were fleeing a state church funded by mandatory tithes collected by the government. There's been only one establishment of religion in the US, the Anglican Church, which was disestablished in 1786.

Mind you; the wise man quoted is Jesus Christ. So, if a person is receives the Word of God for free (he didn’t pay anyone for it), then that person must give (share, impart, teach, preach, proclaim) the Word of God for free.

How many kids need to be molested before we stop the Catholic church ? 9 million oh wait once we know the statistics of victims coming forward .... We there already . Not to mention how Italy is littered with children's corpses

The point can be made on its own. Using a wasteful technology to lazily fake an image to increase algorithmic traffic is repugnant bullshit. That's the point, Ken. If I have a good message, but I write it in shit on a sheet, I can't then dismiss criticism of its transmission for missing the message.

I don’t like fake ai either. But the message the sender is trying to make is more important to me. It’s also possible that the sender didn’t know it was fake. So I guess agree to disagree.

The Religious community are having a moment right now. They want Religion in public schools. And they want vouchers for parents to decide where their kids can go to school. And don’t want children to learn American History. It’s counter productive!

Nope. #churchandstateseparate Australians want religion out of public schools, including money saving chaplains. Taxing churches and their non charitable enterprises. And denying public funding to schools who deny kids education.

My mom was a member of a small church. The pastor was very good at his sermons. Young, charismatic, and was a family man. Well, he is now a mega church pastor and holds those revivals. My family has gone to them. It's just nuts. Biggest scam ever.
