I mean, our understanding is a special thing we learn to trust! How amazing to understand something! Ever have that experience where you understand something once, maybe derived a formula, but then you just trusted it? Your understanding substituted for a trusted memory?

And then OF COURSE we all learn to trust things without understanding them. You eat things without understanding the supply chain every day, I say with certainty because you’re on the internet.

People constantly moving the goal post with AI evals simply reek of not actually handling the material, which is basically negligent, because while some distrust is merited, the line increasingly must be felt and experienced, and cannot be understood in that firm way.
